My Top 6 Albums of 2011

In no specific order Radiohead.  The King of Limbs.  A masterpiece, clocking in at less than 40 minutes.  If not for Kid A, this would have been a watershed moment.  As it stands, it will simply go down as an album that marks their continued genius in the studio (and the fact they can perform …

Blackfield Live

Blackfield at Irving Plaza, 2011

I saw the band in NYC (Anathema’s Danny and Vinny Cavanagh opened). Blackfield was, in a word, powerful.  Their songs took on a much bigger presence and the band has certainly come together as a group.  It did not feel like a Wilson-Geffen side project.  And I’m sure this band will continue to create.   …

19 Albums that (perhaps) you’ve never heard (could be very wrong) but have probably heard of….

Ok. Do I post this as a comment to Philpin’s post? Does it start a nasty set of list posts on JGM? Who knows. Here goes: – Anathema – A Natural Disaster. When you are feeling down and need to go lower – Built to Spill – You in Reverse. 5 years in the making, …

Anathema – new album – finally – “We’re here because we’re here”

gallery-01

Anathema announces their first studio album of new material since 2003 (A Natural Disaster-a gem if you haven’t heard it).  Mixed by Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson, We’re here because we’re here represents the continuing maturation of Anathema as a progressive rock band.  Anathema began their career as a “doom metal” band and have, over the …

Where I end and you begin

up-7radio.jpg

A year ago (longer?) I caught a performance of Radiohead on a TV show called From the Basement.  Its an amazing performance (in HD and all) but, alas, my Tivo died and I lost the recording.  Well, a portion is available on their website From the Basement     From the Basement an incredible show if …
